4 Mar 2019 2016 Dutch Chiropractor of the Year Returns to IMU as Senior Lecturer

A Senior Lecturer from the Chiropractic Department of International Medical University (IMU), Dr Kumaran Devindran Pillay, was awarded Dutch Chiropractor of the Year in 2016 by the Dutch Chiropractic Federation (DCF) in recognition of his significant contributions to the Chiropractic profession with regards to patient care in The Netherlands. The award recipient is determined by a patient satisfaction survey, and moderated by the DCF.  Dr Pillay was almost unable to attend the award ceremony in November 2016, held at the DCF’s 2016 Annual Meeting in Bilthoven, The Netherlands, because his wife had just undergone, the day before, breast conservative surgery following chemotherapy for stage 3b breast cancer.

Commenting on receiving the award, Dr Pillay said, “It was a great honour and privilege for me to receive this award, especially since I was not local and practiced in a foreign language. It truly shows, that no matter what your nationality, colour or creed is, you can still excel and be accepted and honoured for doing something you are passionate about, i.e. helping those in need. After all, every patient deserves the best quality of care!”

Dr Pillay previously worked as a Lecturer/Clinician at IMU from 2011 to 2014 and returned to work as a Senior Lecturer in November 2018 after spending 4 years in The Netherlands. He has the experience of practicing chiropractic in 3 different continents and in 4 different countries. He has worked for various professional football and rugby clubs, with the most notable being PEC Zwolle that is currently in the Dutch Eredivisie (Dutch Football Premier League). Dr Pillay is a registered Chiropractic Sport Physician with a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of South Wales and has completed a course by FIFA in Football Medicine.

Awards received include:

Award Awarded By Year
Most Improved Student Durban University of Technology 2005
Excellence In Demonstrating IMU Core Values (Team Category) International Medical University 2013

Congratulations Dadda. You truly are a great humanitarian. Health care is important. You care about patients and not for profit. I hope other doctors could learn from you. South Africa needs you. Stay blessed.
