IMU Cares: IMU Students and Staff Conduct Health Screening at Ti-ratana

29 March 2014 – A total of 64 students and 31 staff of the International Medical University (IMU) visited the Ti-ratana home in Desa Petaling as part of their contribution to the community under the IMU Cares programme. Activities carried out during this visit were health screening, dental screening, vision test, dietary assessment, physical examination and health talk. Students who were involved in this visit were from the Nursing, Dental, Nutrition and Dietetics, Biomedical Science and Chiropractic programmes while staff consists of academic staff, corporate staff and support staff.

“This IMU Cares project is a long term project. This project is for 5 years starting from 2013. Each year, the students and staff will carry out 3 visits to Ti-ratana. This is to ensure there is a follow thru care given,” said Ms Leela Chellamuthu, the team leader for this project.

“This year, a multidisciplinary approach was used to ensure holistic care is given to the children. Some children were diagnosed with medical and dental problem. All these children will be brought to our IMU Healthcare and dental clinic for free treatment using the Khazanah IHH Healthcare Fund,” added Ms Leela Chellamuthu.

Ti-Ratana Welfare Society is one of the biggest independent, voluntary, non-profit organisation based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This society’s activities include running children’s homes/orphanages, old folks’ home, shelter home for women, home for the handicapped and halfway house.
