8 Jun 2018 Appreciating the Importance of Psychology at IMU

2-3 May 2018 – The Psychology Club of International Medical University organised Psychology Week, which was held at the Atrium of IMU’s Bukit Jalil campus.

The theme of this year’s event is “Get Psyched!”. The aim of this event is to inspire people to embrace and appreciate the importance of psychology in their day to day lives. The event was graced by IMU’s very own Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of IMU Health, Prof Abdul Aziz Baba. “In a way, we are all psychologists because we spend every day analysing and making sense of the world around us,” said Prof Aziz in his speech.

Highlights of the event

Spirits were lifted all over the campus as about 200 students visited the atrium and participated in this year’s Psychology Week.

There were 11 booths in total which included social media addiction screening, “Through the Looking Glass” photo booth, 5 senses experiments and spreading positivity corner. Besides that, there were also other exciting activities aligned with the theme such as a scavenger hunt and the Tree of Hope.

The Tree of Hope constructed by the newest cohort of psychology students added an interesting element to the event. The Tree of Hope was decorated with colourful ribbons adorned with wishes, dreams and positive messages written on them. Students were encouraged to address kind and uplifting messages to themselves as well as to others.

One of the most exuberant features of the event was the flash mob performance presented by IMU’s psychology students from all cohorts. The performance started off with a beautiful song and then a surprise flash mob dance.

Psychology Week 2018 was a great success due to the efforts put together by the entire psychology family of IMU. It was an event filled with excitement, energy and positivity. As 2018 marks the 10th year anniversary of the Psychology programme at IMU, this year’s Psychology Week was extra special. It was truly an occasion of celebration and joyousness that enlightened everyone around the campus. This year has set the benchmark for future Psychology Week events, it will only get bigger and better with greater aims and missions.
