17 Jan 2019 Gala Dinner Concludes IMU’s School of Health Sciences’ 10th Year Anniversary Celebrations
The International Medical University (IMU)’s School of Health Sciences (SoHS) turned 10 and celebrated its Anniversary in 2018 with many activities held throughout the year to commemorate this milestone. The year also marked the 10th year of 4 of the School’s undergraduate programmes namely Medical Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing Science and Dietetics with Nutrition.
The 10th Anniversary Celebrations culminated with a Gala Dinner on 29 November 2018 at the International Medical University. The event was graced by President of IMU Health, Vice Chancellor & CEO of IMU Education, Prof Abdul Aziz Baba; Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof Peter Pook; Pro Vice Chancellor, Education, Prof Vishna Devi Nadarajah; Dean, School of Health Sciences Prof Winnie Chee: Deans of other IMU Schools, Corporate heads of Departments, founding members of the different programmes, Graduate Preparedness Advisory Committee, industry partners, alumni, students and staff of SoHS. The School welcomed and acknowledged the founding members, alumni and the former staff for their contributions in this remarkable journey.
The dinner started with an opening address by the Dean of School, Prof Winnie Chee. In this opening address, she congratulated the faculty, students and alumni for their contributions towards this milestone. She also envisaged that this support would continue to strengthen the School and make it well known in this region. She also mentioned 2 landmark accreditations that SOHS has achieved.

|The IMU Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biomedical Science programme obtained a prestigious accreditation from the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), UK. Accreditation by the IBMS is an international recognition by the profession of the achievement of quality standards for delivering BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science programmes.|
|The BSc (Hons) Dietetics with Nutrition programme in International Medical University was awarded the International Accreditation for Education Programs for Dietitian-Nutritionists by the International Confederation of Dietetics Association (ICDA).|
Prof Winnie also congratulated the staff and students across all the programmes who have made a significant presence in conferences by winning prizes and accolades.
The Vice Chancellor then commended the progress done by the School in the last decade and congratulated the School for their achievements and the continuous strive for excellence.
The event closed with a scrumptious Gala Dinner celebrating the successes of the 10-year journey. Guests at the dinner were entertained by various student performances. Students from the Biomedical Science, Dietetics with Nutrition, Medical Biotechnology. Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry programmes danced, sang and played musical instruments to entertain these guests throughout the night.
